The library is a service organization that reflects and advances the mission of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden by:
Providing broad access to botanical and horticultural information in all formats.
- Collecting and preserving works of merit in botany and horticulture and managing electronic gateways to information on these subjects available elsewhere.
- Collecting, preserving and providing access to the historical records of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and to research and primary source materials of organizations and individuals connected to the Garden or whose work reflects the mission of the Garden.
- Preserving and securing rare and unique materials of historical importance in these subjects.
- Meeting the research and programmatic requirements of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden staff.
- Supporting educational, advocacy and research needs of the broader gardening, horticultural and botanical community.
- Educating library users in retrieval and management of information.

Intern will participate in a cataloging project involving selected pamphlets, reprints, old nursery and garden equipment catalogs, and similar items of historical importance. Project provides exposure to-- and use of-- OCLC and the Sydneyplus ILS. In addition, the internship will allow for participation in any reference, high school intern mentoring, library volunteer guidance, web page development, training, meeting, and preservation and repair opportunities that arise. Brooklyn is as much fun as Manhattan--even better! The Brooklyn Public Library Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park are all nearby.

The SI Alternative Spring Break is open to graduate students of the University of Michigan's School of Information. Undergraduates looking for Alternative Spring Break opportunities should look into the University of Michigan Alternative Spring Break program administered by U-M's Ginsberg Center.
